Transmission Interchange??
Excuse me if this been asked but I am a newbie and in need of help....
Hello I have a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo SS 3.8L that I bought knowing that the transmission was shot. So my first mistake was that I got a transmission from a junkyard from a 2000 pontiac grand prix on the advice of a friend.
The tranny I got out of the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix has 14 wires from harness plug that goes to the transmission while the Monte Carlo harness plug that goes to the transmission has 16 wires.
I asked a few people and I was told that it is not the right transmission. That too many changes have been made between 2000 and 2003. So therefor some of the gears will not shift if I install it.
My question is will the transmission I have from the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix work in my 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo?
Also if not, then in what year Chevy Monte Carlo can I use for my 2003? Can I do 2001? 2002? 2004? 2005?
Lastly What other cars (Make-Model-Year) is interchangeable with a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo?
Thank you so much in advance.

i had to have mine rebuilt because my 2003 trany went a couple years ago as well. i was told not to use any trany from any other year except 2003 if i were to just drop a another one in. yes they made too many changes with the 5 years of "interchangable" parts and so when it comes to tranys we are stuck with 2003 and thats it. unless you want to make a bunch of other changes to make it work.
