2003 Monte Carlo 4.3L swap

RE: 2003 Monte Carlo 4.3L swap
I honestly have never heard of anyone doing this. But I am puzzled why you would want to since it would be a 10 horsepower loss. As if i remember correctly the 4.3 that were in S10s had 190hp and I am pretty sure it would be a mpg loss as well.

Well it would be a mpg loss FOR SURE and if he has an LS, with the 3400 it would be a hp gain, but you're right, if it is an SS it would be a loss...There are way more things you need to think about though. For starters, the 4.3L was always a rear drive motor...I'm not sure if you could find a kit to convert it to fwd....second, if you can't convert it, ummm....rear axle, driveshaft...the car isn't designed for any of that...Anythning can be done, but I don't think a 4.3 would be economical AT ALL...any way you look at it.

For the same money, if your Monte is high millage(like mine), just rebuild your engine and throw in a ZZP stroker kit, VS cam + ZZP stage2 heads, ported lowerintake & stage 1 TB, HV3, and a 2.5" catted Downpipe. But most importantly a PCM1.0 that is adjusted for ALL thesemods. You will still look EXACTLY stock, be emissions legal, not loose as much MPG, and dyno around 235whp, as opposed to the stock L36 165whp. And that kicks both a 2nd(215whp) or third(231whp) generation blown L67. IMO.

I have2003 monte and i want to put a 4.3L in it, love the car but love the motor i had in my blazer. I was wandering if its even possible. If someone knows if it is or has seen let me know.

If you want an engine upgrade (assuming you have a 3400) an NA 3800 (L36) or supercharged 3800 (L67) both have similar or more power than the 4.3 with much more aftermarket. And both of them physically bolt right in and plug right in for the most part. Very little custom work is necessary. To put a 4.3 in, you're looking at doing a bunch of custom modification- for no reason.

There are tons of low-medium mileage L36 and L67 engines for decent prices- far cheaper thana rebuild- and then you have factory reliability.
and throw in a ZZP stroker kit
There is a reason they haven't sold hardly any of their kits.
VS cam
IMO since you're suggesting NA mods- a GT1/2/3 would be a better choice, but I would suggest boost instead.

I don't know where you got your numbers from either- a stock series 2 L67 generally only does about 200 whp unless you're adding in basic bolt ons or something.

RE: 2003 Monte Carlo 4.3L swap
what engine is in yours right now? the 4.3 wont touch a 3.8 or a supercharged 3.8, plus the engine sits the oposite way (the 4.3 sits in front to back, where the 3.8 goes in sideways) so there would be a lot of customizing.
if your wanting more power, drop the 5.3 in it from an impala or a monte, it will fit, and will probably cost less, or try to find a supercharged 3.8
just my opinion though
