RE: 1987 SS
SAME YEAR AS MINE!!!
Don't put any money into the 305. Save up some cash and start building a strong 350. Right now my '87 runs 12.18. I think I can get it in the high 11's with a little bit of tuning. That 305 is probably one of the worst V8 motors ever made by GM.

i had a 305 h.o. in my 88 and i took everybody around here with 350 !!
305 h.o. r better than any 350 of the time yes you can built a better 350 than 305 and for cheaper and theres no replacement for displacement but personely i dont like the 350 my self

RE: 1987 SS
Kind of an old thread, but the 305HO is a very good engine. Not the best on high number HPs but they r very torquey. If u can remove the cat conv and replace with a pipe u will gain some, other little tips are to put on headers (factory exhaust is fine for this engine), intake is already good but EGR does reduce some ponies, but the biggest is prob just to feed more air into it. A couple ways are to just replace your air filter if clogged or remove the wire screen thing on the inside of the air filter (just pry it out). Just getting more air into the engine makes a BIG difference.
Just listen to the difference an air intake change makes. Sucking Air
