Default 1979 305ci question

So I am redoing my intake manifold and carburetor on my 79 with the 305. I have someone willing to give me a new intake manifold and a holley dual carb high stack setup. He had originally bought it for a 327 and I was wondering if anyone knew if it would bolt right on to my 305? and if so is it gonna be too much power?

It will bolt up, It will not be to much power.
It will still be a 305 .. NOT A 572 big block .. LOL

IMO installing that setup on a stock 305 will just create all kinds of headache for you. First off, you'll need to synchronize the carbs. Then you'll need to change jet size, accelerator pump actuator cam and secondary spring tension just for starters. In other words, you'll have to trim back everything the setup has to offer just to get your engine to run half way decent. Your performance gain - absolutely zero. That setup might look pretty awesome sitting between the fender wells, but unless you have an engine that can actually utilize and take advantage of the setup it's just a waste of time that will hurt performance.

If the guy is just going to give it to you then grab it. You can use it as trading material for parts you can actually use. Even a single 780cfm carb is way too big for a 305. A 600cfm - or a 650cfm carb if modified - will provide more then enough flow for a 305.

The problems you are up against is the 305/307 were designed to be smog engines. The bore/stroke combo and emission designed heads would choke off any potential performance gain you would see from a manifold/carb swap.
