Here is a Link to many good orbital and circular buffers (DA and Rotary)

http://www.autogeek.net/bupo.html

I use the Meguiars DA G110v2 and it works great. I use use 6.5" pads and I also purchased a 3.5" backing plate so I can use 4" pads to get on small places.

The Griots is to be a good buffer.

If you can afford it the Flex is to be one of the best around.

most of my scratches are too deep to be taken out with a buffer unfortunatly as for the buffer i'm a tool salesman at sears, go craftsman we have some good stuff that might be worth checking out

I can say I have never had a problem with swirl marks with my orbital, although I usually clay bar first then wax after and I use all Mothers products.

I wax & everything by hand. I spent 6 hours on Friday detailing the monte for the cruise & show this past weekend. It's a good feeling even if your arms are burning lol && it helps keep me in shape to a certain degree

I usually compound out with a buffer, sometimes I polish by hand, sometimes I use a buffer. I always wax by hand though. The trick I usually use to get a smooth, even coat of wax is to make a single straight line down the middle of a panel you are using, and then move your hand in a circular motion going through the line so that you are constantly distributing wax, and it comes out perfectly even every time!

Back before I started to use a buffer I did it all by hand and I always used the straight line method, and I never worsened the swirls.

To get deep scratches out you can try wet sanding and then use a buffer to get out the sanding marks. Just make sure you always sand in a straight line and keep it very wet, the paint and the sandpaper. Also make sure your sandpaper is wrapped around a pad. You can usually buy kits that will have everything you need.
