Crossed my mind too.. But after looking at it again most of the big spots are all running in the same direction.. So I would agree with this. But more or less the acid would have etched it, and will probably be to deep to remove.

What wheel cleaner do you use... Unless you know what you are doing for specific type of wheel, or cleaning etc.. I recommend a PH balanced wheel cleaner.. Like this...>>> SONAX Wheel Cleaner, all wheel cleaner, chrome wheel cleaner, aluminum wheel cleaner, full effect wheel cleaner.. <<<Great Stuff There..

I agree with shocker. I would try rubbing compound. Not to gritty to help maybe polish it out.

I never did this to the wheels they were like that when I bought the car a few years ago. But yea most likely someone probably left some harsh wheel cleaner on them. I haven't notice it getting worse during winter with the salt out. I think I'm pretty much set on just painting them black. Cheap and easy, and I know someone who can do it for me. Here's what I did on microsoft paint for an idea of what they would look like. Looks pretty good imo.

Meh. I still think it would look better than what it does now. Might even paint the calipers red while I'm at it.
