Default Removing Pinstripes

What is a good way to remove the factory pinstripes on an '88 SS??? I tried this with my last Monte using a hair dryer and that failed miserably. I know there's gotta be a way to do this without ruininig the paint. A hair dryer alone isn't going to cut it when removing 15+ year old pinstripes!!!!

I've had success with a mild rubbing compound and a buffer...

Of course I am a detail novice...

That will take the actual pinstripes off, or just the glue left over?

That will remove everything...... As you noted with the stripes being 15+ years old they are going to be tough. One thing you should be aware of too is that the outline of the pin stripe will more than likely be there after you remove it due to sun fade.

3M MAKES A SPRAY ON FOAM THAT I'VE USED IN THE PAST. IT WILL REMOVE THE STRIPES WITH A LITTLE RUBBING AND MAYBE TWO APPLICATIONS FOR THE STUBBORN STRIPES. IT IS CALLED STRIPE AND DECAL REMOVER AND RUNS AROUND $15 A CAN. I HAVE EVEN USED IT ON REMOVING WOODGRAIN PANELS. RR

I have heard the eraser type tools work well, which is what mickey is referring to. Any detail shop should be able to hook you up. I used a razorblade to remove the decals on my car, but that is very tedious and you have to be careful. Varsol works well from getting rid of the glue residue.

Before the car was mine the owner had it detailed inside and out and whatever they did for a wax job took most of the pinstripe off the sides of the car.........
