Dawn works great, and clear coat is up to you. With the high heat engine paint i guess you really wouldn't need it since the cover doesn't get as hot as an engine would but I cleared mine. I wanted it be real glossy and last me a while without fading and such it still looks as great as when I first painted it

Frank's looks great - great scheme and color choices. But I would actually suggest several coats of high build primer to get it smooth and glossy.

Its a lot of sanding tho. A better, more patient painter could do even better (and I have seen 'em).

I don't like the way those mesh covers look, but they are practical for disapating heat

I always loved your cover man
Ever since I came across this forum around 2 years ago lol Badass

Yea there will be ALOT of sanding involved if you want a nice smooth finish and way better quality (than mine lol)
I actually considered it but didn't want to do any sanding :p the texture on it doesn't bother me at all

I agree there is nothing wrong with the texture and it does help paint adhere. Getting it smooth was a lot of work, a lot of paint, a lot of sanding and even I didn't get it perfect
