the first thing i would ask is what kind of car did they come off of. If they were a Front wheel drive car you have a chance. but if not then no dice.
It took me almost a full day of runnig around to find some in town. But this is not to say you cant in your town just here seems to be out of stock for everything or has to be orderd.

think it is thier favort saying "I CAN ORDER IT FOR YA! Just give me the money down"

I paid 1400.00 for mine with rims and tires and lugs and locks, balanced and mounted and also put on the car.
Figured i had gotten a pretty decent deal cant say it was the best but not the worse i have heard of.
Mine were brand new never mounted.

Oh and they are 18's on mine.
SO this give you a clue on where to start guessing. But if he is going to scrap them i would give him 200.00 for the set.
Or just tell him how about 200.00 for the set and see if he says 250.00 find out how he counters ya.
But remeber they might not fit.

Can you touch them see them mount one under the car to see if they will fit on the montes?
If not i would defently not go to high. you might get them and they will all be scratched or bent.
seems funy for some one to scrap a set of good wheels when they will get pretty much nothign for them if not nothign at all.

i would defently go look then and find out if they fit you dont have to bolt them down just make sure they will fit on there with out scraping on the hub, brake caliper, and if you have a tire on it if they will rub.

If you know someoen in a tire shop see if they can give you the back spacing for your car and his that they come off of . they have a book for this im sure an dit is a matter of looking it up.
But if they fit and the price is right i would take them homee with me.

Here is the adfor the wheels. He is just a few miles from the house. http://detroit.craigslist.org/pts/595857959.html

He states they're off an Alero, 5 x 115, same as Monte, offset and all.
