Default Vibration Issue...

Hi all!

Ok I'm at what feels like my wits end here and I'm grasping at straws. I do not own a Monte, I do have an 01 Grand Prix GT.. why am I posting here you might be asking? Well I think I've ran into an issue that the guys at clubgp.com have not seen before. And since there are many similarities between a GP and a Monte I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot here.

So what's happening is, when making right hand turns (being close corners or sweeping like merging onto the interstate) I get a noticable vibration from the front end. Had a buddy ride with me and he called it "bouncy".. felt more like it was coming from the front pass side than anywhere else.

I've had the wheel off, jimmied, shook, thumped, pushed and pulled everything I could wrap my hand around and nothing feels loose. Tie rod, strut, caliper assembly, brake disc, control arm are all tight. Bushings (from the ones I can fully see) are all good.

Can anyone throw me a tip or pointer on how to possibly further narrow this down? Could it be a shot strut? Wheel bearings maybe?

Thanks!

bearing pops into my mind first.

part of the wheel hub assembly though, so not too cheap of a fix.

Have you tried moving tire positionsfront to rear, left to right, etc. to see if that has any effect on the condition? Is this something that just started all at once or did it start slight and has been increasingly getting worse? Can you just feel it or is it audible also?

Actually I did (on saturday) swap the front two tires around. FUnny thing is the vibrations seemed to lessen but dot disappear entirely. And yes it's both audible and tactile thru the steering wheel/dash.

I am new hear just signed up a few minutes ago. I have a 2000 SS and just replaced my wheel bearing/hub assembly. I had noticeable vibration at speeds above 30 and during acceleration. At first I thought it was a bad tire, so I had those replaced. It was still there so I had my suspension fixed and the struts replace. I still had the vibration and decided to change the hub myself. I started yesterday and was done in about two hours. I had never done it before but it was pretty straightforward. I have no vibration now and my car drives like a dream with the other work that I had done(it was time to replace that other stuff anyway). I would give that a shot. Good luck.

P.S. Now my ABS light and TRAC light will not go off so I am searching for a fix for that. I think I just failed to correctly connect the sensor back there.

If you don't already have one. I'd install a Strut Tower Brace and eliminate any possibility that the jitter is in the Body doing a little give and sliding the wheel some.

look at the strut mounts, they wear out. it will make a noticable noise and also cause "loose" steering.
