Default Springs and struts?

This might be kinda redundant but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have a 2000 monte carlo ss with 20 inch wheels and the back ones are rubbing a little bit when I go over railroad tracks or bumps. I do have stereo equipment in the trunk too. I've decided to replace the struts all the way around with the KYB GR2's and was wondering if the stock springs would still be ok. I don't want to lower it any, the wheels fill out the wells enough, just wondered if struts would fix the rubbing? I've been getting mixed info about it.

well, if your putting on struts and bottoming i'd say find bigger bottoming stops or some sort of spacer while the stuts are off. if youre not close to bottoming....i dunno hacksaw

The gr2's are 15% stiffer than stock strutsit might hold ya a little bettter, the springs are the main control of ride height but with a stifferstrut you might not compress as far as you would with a warn out stock strut! what size tires are running?

new struts will hold the car up a little stiffer..wont travel as far...this should fix the problem....springs would help to...but try one at a time so you dont have to spend too much money

Thanks for the replies. I can't remember the exact tire size, I haven't got them out of storage yet, took them off for winter. I'll try the struts and see what happens.

It'll help a little bit cause it'll take a bit more force to compress the shock, but how much it'll help with your rubbing is a toss up. Only one way to find out.
