Default Spacer

Well on my monte there is a spacer on the rear suspension, I dont know if that year came with them or not. But I figure if i take it out, the suspension will be WAY too soft. Is there any kind of thing like a reverse spacer, to hold 2 parts of the springs together, instead of apart, or would it affect handling??

There is a spacer in the springs now holding them apart?
By all means remove it.
Spring rating is based upon the coils being able to compress as a team.
Spacers effect the spring capabilities big time while weakening the area where it resides until a weak link collapses.
Either way, holding them together or apart is old school, cheap mickey mouse tactics.
I could never believe they would ever use them stock when a redesign would be very simple.

A spacer won't make it stiff per say.
Its holding a section of coil so it can't collapse like it should.
Its does not change the spring overall rating, just limits travel.

Did you buy the car used? I wonder if soemone would have done that to keep the rear from sagging or rubbing with a large stereo and larger wheels.

Just think if you pull the spacer out and it is to soft for your liking then it just another reason to buy some eibach springs.
