I was wondering what would be a good summer only tire? 235/55R17 V rated The hancook optimos I have now just suck. They don't have anything for traction. The Goodyear rep that comes into the garage I work at says the Goodyear Eagle F1 are great...but he is a salesman so he could be trying to make a sale. Does anyone have experience with it? Hows it grip. Any suggestions? I run snow tires in winter so it only has to be good on dry ground and rain.

I myself don't have any experience with the F1, but I have some friends with newer Mustangs and they swear by them. I would probably choose those if I were to pick a summer tire.

 

We have Goodyear F1 tires on 2 cars. 245/45-18. Both on the Monte and the Solstice. Maybe not the BEST tire, but I have no complaints. I put them on the Monte for under $500 out the door. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

When looking for tires, I look for at LEAST a 400 AA A rated tire, unless the price is REALLY good, and I want an AA A rated tire no matter what. AA rating for traction, and the 2nd A rating for temp. 400 is the wear rating (just an FYI for those that don't know).

Michelin has a 500 AA A rated tire, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus, but at $50/tire more, I'd stick with the Goodyears.

Look for REBATES! Goodyear has an $80 rebate right now, and that brings it down to $137/tire for the F1's

Thank you for the suggestions. I forgot about tire rack. I'll probably use it to see whats out there but buy them at cost from work. I may go with the f1's. I just wanted to see if someone had 1st hand experience with them on their monte. I'm not looking for the greatest tire, just something that grips a little better so I'm not always accidentally spinning the tires.

The garage I work at is a Goodyear dealer (has been since the early 1900's too) and employees can get special factory direct prices on tires so I can get them dirt cheap

Is there an alternate size I can put on the Dale JR wheels, something maybe a little wider?

 

I think the Dale wheels use a 235 width, which is already a little wider than the typical Monte tire which is a 225...IDK if you can go even wider or not???

Wayne is running 245's but he is using an aftermarket rim.

 

Im not sure if you can go over 235 or it will be bulging a bit out the sides and probably give you a good sidewall flex.
