Hi all. First I lost my overdrive in this car last year and have not been able to afford to fix it. Now when I make right hand turns while on the accelerator, the car shakes terribly and is ripping my tires apart. When I let off the gas, the car stops shaking (no matter what speed).

hmm... cv joint maybe?

 

I agree Duane, but if that isn't the case, lets talk about what it could be:
Axle
CV Joint
Tie Rod End
Tie Rod
Wheel bearing
steering system itself
Here's what I'm saying: Inspect the whole front end or have someone do it for you.... lol

 

i kinda dissagree on the cv.... a cv joint normally clicks when turning.... power applied or not i'm thinking internal tranny.... where it sends power to that wheel... when under power alot of things are turing with more force to them then without... a friends 02 cougar did the same thing and it called for having a new tranny... hope it's not but that's my 2 cents

 

i am betting your fixin to have to replace rebuild or other wise fix a tranny soon.
would be a great idea to not drive it to much or ya might find your self walkin back home.

sorry to say it but the tranny sounds to me it is on it's way out. and the front end defently will need to be inspected so that it can be fixed if needed also.

I took my right tire off and got under the car and noticed grease all over the CV boot and engine lines. I cannot find the source of it, but I am guessing it is coming out of the cv boot/bearings?

I also noticed that the bushing on the lower arm is torn is half. (The one closest to the front of the car.)

Would these problems cause the jerking under acceleration? Or is it mainly a failing transmission?

In regards to the transmission; I have lost overdrive as well.
