While I was at school they held a few autox events in one of the parking lots. Never got a chance to run the monte but I was a spectator at two of them. There were a couple of guys that were hardcore into autocross that came up for the event. They were running late 80s early 90s camaros and late 90s corvettes. I talked to one of the camaro guys and made a comment about some of the FWD cars that were running the course. I said it was funny how all they did was sled through the corners and the big american cars that "cant handle" were tearing up the track. He let slip a little secret about being more successful with a FWD car. He said to run big wide tires up front and skinnier tires in the back. Apparently it lets the rear of the car whip around better and counter-act some of the FWD under-steer (sledding). I think that would be a good idea but I can also see how it could get you into trouble as well if your rear end whipped around too easily. Would be an interesting idea to test the next time someone has a chance to autox their FWD.

It works very well- look at the Grand Prix GXP- they come factory with 255's up front and 225's out back. The nice thing about the GXP's is they run a wider wheel with more offset up front, so both wheels/tires still line up to the body in the same spot when looking down the side of the car (ie so the front tires aren't hanging out of the well and the back tires aren't sucked into the well).

If your interested in doing a Autocross event check out Super Chevy 2011 schedule. It kicks off in Jupiter,Fl and then goes to Las vegas April 29-30 to May 1st. I'm going again as they are always pretty spectacular events. jet trucks and all types of Chevy powered 1/4 track cars. I might not Autocross again this year and elect to run the Street Legal Class on the 1/4 mile and call it good. Try to attend one of the events close to you.

Here is the 2011 Super Chevy schedule...
