Wanted: 3100 V6 for my 96 LS
#11
Thanks for your responses guys, I wasn't trying to be a jerk earlier. This is very stressful for me especially with the holidays coming up. My dad died about 14 years ago and we had a flood not too long ago and we lost a lot of things. This car is pretty much all I have of him left. I want to keep it as long as I can. Also with my uncle helping this is the cheapest way. The car really is in great shape. When I saw that post I just took it the wrong way because anyone I talk to about this I get that response, they all say its a 96 let it go. Sorry for the sob story, thanks again for your replies.

Everyone has rough spurts, I believe it's just god testing you, which will lead you to better things.
I hope you have luck with this and find a good running engine. I would call all the yards around you if possible also.

Car-parts.com, picked up a 115k 3400 for my sisters buick rendezvous for $400 localy, one of the better prices and miliage i found using that site,
Only sugestion i have is if you find one but it came out of a different car make sure to take your time disasembling your becuase there may be small difference, that you may have to swap over from your stock motor, sisters motor came from a grand am so top motor mounts where different, metal heater lines, rendezvouse had a oil cooler, a few other small things that i can't remember,
while your at it and waiting to put the new motor in you may as well do the good aluminum lower intake manifold gaskets and save a head ach down the road

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I still have not had any luck. Sorry Canada is too far for me! Thank you though! I'll have to check out that website, hopefully I can get something close by. It looks like I may have to wait until income tax time though.

@trvsglr - The 3100 and 3400 were some of GM's most popular engines. They were offered in just about every car from '99 until I think '04/'05. I'm sure if you call around to the local junk yards, someone has got to have one.
The only issue is mileage and price. But I'm sure someone has one and is probably near your location.
Also check eBay, sometimes engines sell for reasonable prices, even with the freight shipping. But I think your best bet is calling some local junk yards.
Keep in mind, if all you need is an engine, I don't believe you are limited to year/vehicle. Such as if you want a 3100, you may need to swap over engine mounting hardware, but the engine itself is a fit. If you want to upgrade to a 3400, small amount of extra effort, but again, the donor vehicle should not matter.
