Default Vinyl Ground FX instead of paint

I've been tossing the idea of painting the ground fx on my 5th gen for several months. I had the idea the other day to use a roll of vinyl applied to the ground fx instead of paint. I've seen that stuff get stretched around mirrors so I don't think it would be a problem stretching it around the bumpers. The front lip would probably have to be done in 2 or more pieces but I'm sure it could be done where the seams were hardly noticeable. What do you guys think? I think it would be less of a hassle than painting because of the prep work, and probably hold up better to the elements. I've seen lots of painted ground fx's that start to chip after not to long. It will be more expensive, but better quality if applied properly?

I don't have photoshop or anything so this is the best I could do. What my car might look like with black ground fx. I think it would really add to the black/chrome theme. I have a blacked out tails too. Might look good.

I don't see the vinyl being better than paint as far as holding up to the elements.

Where do you live? and Do you drive your Monte in the winter?

I live in nw iowa. It is my only car so yes I drive it in the winter. It gets lots of salt in the winter. If they were to get painted I would do them myself I.e. rattle can. I just don't see it lasting long and it would start to look worse than before when it starts to peel and chip.

I see, I didn't know the option was for rattle can :P

If you had them professionally done, it would withstand the elements very well. My car was painted in 2000 and is holding out nicely. There are a couple black spots from rock chips and such, but for 10 years, not bad.

Professionally done would be pretty expensive no? A few hundred dollars?

Worth it to get it quoted, mine wasn't that expensive (though 10 years ago)

Any body recommend a good vinyl place? I think I'll buy a few feet and try it around the doors and such. I'm liking this idea better than paint. Its going to be cheaper and unique. I was looking at decalfx.com. They have uncut rolls of black vinyl.
