Default To tint the tail lights or not?

I was considered tinting my tail lights on my 98'. But I heard that it can can be a bad thing especially if you get rear ended. My friend suggested that I didn't, because his Dad rear ended someone who had tinted lights. The lights themselves were not the problem but his dad went ahead and said they were and made a case for it in court and he actually did not have to pay for the damage because of it.

So... I wouldn't want that happening to me... Would bulbs like these prevent any problems like that from happening?

I know I might be taking a little far almost spending $100 on just my tail lights total. But if I can prevent a case like that, then why not?

i'll put it this way...i did it on my silver 04 ss and it looks amazing...did it myself with the spray for like $20...its cost me over $150 in tickets so now i plan on buying a new/used set for everyday use and put these on for shows...they ARE illegal and cops will break your chops about them

i have them done...you can make them look good without having them impossible to see through... above is worst case scenario when you dont try to fix it and you have them completely blacked out, you have to let light be able to still show through and its completely legal. i say go for it

Mine are legal in Wyoming so long as you can see them from a certain distance. I've never been pulled over even after being followed several blocks with them covered in dust when you could hardly see anything out of them.

As to whether or not to do it... Well I think it depends on the color(s) on your car. I think mine fit well because I have a grey/black scheme going on. I've seen them on other cars where it's the only black thing and it just looks goofy then.

Depends on the state you live in. Here in MO, you have to be able to see them from a distance. I have been followed but not pulled over because of those. But if I travel 15 mins way to KS they can be as dark as a person likes and it is not against the law as far as I know. My friend had his back refector blacked out and has yet to be pulled over in KS for it. (But if he comes here they will pull him over because he has "out of state" tags.)

Im in Ohio and have mine tinted pretty dark as well as the third brake light and reverse lights. I have been pulled over a few times and they have never said a thing about them. They are more worried about the windows here.

Also I used spray tint that I bought at summit racing.

There really not bad, just a word of caution. Nite shade runs really easy so take your time, and as long as you do 2 maybe 3 coats your good. Below i posted some pics day and night.

My car is a 1998 z34

In This pic u can see the rear as a whole.
