I would think a heat gun like they use for heat shrink tubing would work then some rubbing alcohol to get rid of the glue residue

i have a read a lot about using a steamer but i have no clue if it would work. i don't want to risk damaging the defogger and having to have the whole window replaced.

I detail cars and the best way I've found to do it is to peel the tint off and than spray the whole back windshield with Windex and let it sit for a few minutes. The ammonia eats at the glue and than it basically just wipes off with a rag. If it does wipe off than use a plastic razor blade and it will scrape off really easy after the Windex has sat on there.

The method they use at the dealership is a heat gun and taking your time, if it's a hot sunny day you might be able to just park the car in the sun for awhile. They also use acetone on the side windows, but not sure how that'll work with the wires. As stated above I know ammonia will eat the glue, not sure how long it has to stay on, always told don't even wash the tint with ammonia based cleaners so I guess it's rather quick.
