Default Suggestions for painting engine cover

I want to partially paint my engine cover, but not the whole thing. Basically just like this:

What would be the best way to do this? And is there a certain type of paint I should use?

If I follow your pic, you want just the letting silver and the rest factory gray? GM did that from the factory on the earlier years of that cover. But by the time you find one in good enough shape the cost of paint would have been easier.

There are guys here that have painted there covers and can give better advice then I, ut it will take a lot of time masking.

OR, you can go to Welcome to Reflective Concepts and I believe they have overlays you can just stick that might be much easier to do.

Yeah you got it I just want to paint the lettering. I thought GM did it from the factory too and I was surprised to find that mine was not painted

I have done a ton of research on painting engine covers and what paint to get and what not. From everything I have read and heard from other people, the engine cover doesn't get hot enough to need high heat paint. So any normal dupli color paint or whatever brand you choose will be fine. Now I am painting my entire engine cover so it won't be exactly the same as what you are doing. but I sanded the entire thing down with 400g sandpaper and then I primed the entire thing and let it dry for a couple days. Then I went back and sanded with 600g sandpaper and as soon as I finished that I sanded with 800g wet sandpaper to help make it nice and smooth then I put on the base coat which for me was rid and now I just recently finished taping everything off and now I am waiting for good weather to paint all the letters and accents. and after that dries I will shoot it with clear to give it a good shine. Then I will cut the clear with 2000g sandpaper and then buff it to a really nice shine. For you, you will probably just need scuff up your letters and whatever you are painting with 400g sandpaper and then just tape everything off and start painting.
