Spoiler Project
So, as many of you know, I've been doing idle work waiting to tackle the intake gasket project. This one has been staring me in the face, so I decided to get a start on it.
The problem... My spoiler looks like S*!T.

(okay, the dirt is my fault, but...) I think the stuff flaking off is clear coat. I really believe this (spoiler) was added by a previous owner and they painted it themselves. On top of the flaking, I've highlighted with an orange circle a hole from the support bolt being drilled/tightened through the top of the spoiler. (which has let water into it) Lastly, you can see where water has gotten under the edges and collected lots of dirt and other crawling things

So, my short term budget plan is to use plastic/fiberglass filler to repair the hole. sand down (800 grit or better??) the whole thing and repaint it white with clear coat (rattle can.. I said it was a budget project). To protect the underside/trunk, I'm thinking 3M doubleside around outter edge to prevent water seeping underneath.
Thoughts/input greatly appreciated (expected!). I painted my fender braces with fair success for a first timer, so this is my next learning project w/ paint, so please link and instruct any advice. THANKS in advance!!
(PS - I know the whole trunk lid with spoiler will need to be redone to match, but i'm doing this as much to protect the spoiler/paint as I am for learning)

I'm not sure the type, but if you look at my garage pics and the dirt line on the trunk, you'll see the spoiler actually goes below the brake light and there's a cut out on the spoiler for the brake light to show through. That's further down the trunk then I've seen on any of the other vertical (non-serving tray/surfboard) spoilers.

I *almost* thought it was a '06-'07 spoiler, but looking at the debris it left all around the 3rd brake light appears that is "wraps" around the 3rd brake light (which the '06 spoiler I have waiting for install does not do).
I peaked at his garage and pulled the pic linked below. I wonder if this spoiler is perhaps a aftermarket one from one of the aftermarket body kit packages.

(i'm no painter) I think it looks worse than it is... a little soap and water will clean up the trunk and I don't see any paint bubbling or rusting (except the edges of the drill holes), so I think I'm good on that part.
I'll try to remember what type the spoiler is for future reference ( I can look up old posts, a nice gent who's site name eludes me too.. I'm sure he'll chime in eventually... told me twice.. here and on mymonte.com)
Anywho... any thoughts/guidance on the repaint and repair of the spoiler? Am I in the ball park with my summary?

yes, yes.... I know you did... I was reiterating that fact that eventually I'll remember since this is the THIRD time I've been told!! Plus I like to give reference to 7801MonteMan because he keeps educating me about my spoiler (see this post Looking for Intimidator Spoiler)
If you start with 800 wet or dry, you'll be there forever cutting down that clear (IF that's what it is peeling off, tough call from the pic) . I'd start with maybe 320 wet-or-dry, but keep it nice and wet while you sand so your paper does not clog up to quickly. Get all that coating off that you can, painting over it will just bite you later as I suspect the rest is just waiting to start lifting also. Once it's smooth, then a nice 400 wet or dry will get you ready to paint. I would highly recommend a light prime coat just to lock down whatever kind of paint that is on there now and then one more light sand with the 400 before topcoating. Painting with a spray can, I have no advice as I only use my spray guns and automotive paint.
