Comes from firing a 106 recoiless rifle and riding in Chinook Helicopters, to loud, and back in the 70's the hearing protection was fairly inadequate.
So when I would leave this activity then the ears would ring most of the day next day not bad.
Flying gets me now and if I would go to Colorado and visit my daughter then I have this stuffy feeling. Now I look at it as a blessing in disguise I hate to fly and this keeps me out of the plane. But I do get hearing aides from the VA and they help amplify the ring and there were probably a few encounters that I missed becasue I couldn't understand what the Lady said.
I have it too from years of racing and very loud music. Grew up in the 60's. No one used ear protection back then. Then one night, the last year Nascar had a race here in Nashville in 1974, I had pit passes. 400 laps inside a bowl, and they didn't run mufflers back then. Woke up with a terrible ringing in my ears. I am a class A driver, so have to pass the new hearing test, which is crazy. So had to get a hearing aid to do it. I wore it home, and heard all kinds of new sounds I had been missing. I could even hear water running in the pipes. But hearing the wife yammer on I decided to not use it. Blissful. Now she only talks when it is important....lol.

Very nice Sam, the Monte will be so safe for you, well as long as you wear a helmet and employ every other conceivable safety option. Matt is really doing the build of his lifetime for you. Simply an amazing piece of automotive history in the making. There is a lot of engineering taking place there, is he bringing in consultants for some aspects of this build. Seems like an awful lot of knowledge for one person to have. One can sit back and admire this work of art for hours, so much to absorb. Congrats Sir, coming along nicely. I'm going to have to stop by and give it a good once over in the next week or so as I will be going by the shop on the way to SLC. Who knows you may get a universal 2 Thumbs up review from the automotive enthusiast society.. Any talks with Hot Rod magazine in the works? Seems like someone from a magazine should be out every now and again documenting this amazing build.

lol, we should place bets and see who wins with the final weight numbers. Do a poll here on the forum, have a bit of fun. Also, loved your hearing aid comment, the end made me rofl. Now she only talks when it is important, lol, that's mean!!

I would highly advise you to get that seat braced. My wife's Malibu seat just failed in the right front. The welds are cheap and will break fast. The round bar will break at the joint. You are going to be pulling 4gs and putting a lot of strain on them. Easy to do it now.

This is where it fails.

Default Seat adjuster

Thanks for the advise on the seat adjuster - I am not going to use this OEM part - did not fit correctly - have another from a motor home that works - will speak to my builder about bracing it - your advise is well taken - thank you. Sam

Greg: I am so glad you like everything Matt is doing - he is one smart man. Not sure what he knows, I just know he knows a whole lot more than I do. And he is smart enough to know when he runs into difficult scenarios he knows exactly where to go (or call) to get the answers he needs. If you are going to be in Sandy - I sure would love to have you take some more pictures if you can and post them here. In regard to Hot Rod Mag - I still have the Editor and Photographer's phone numbers and I was thinking of calling them again to see if they would have an interest but I thought I would do that just before Matt took everything apart again for paint and power-coating. Short of that - thanks for your interest - you are my greatest fan, bar none - thanks so much - talk soon. --- and if you were wondering, yes, I am getting antsy - I just can't wait to get SSV II home. I did get new plates for it and sent them to Matt - Just like my other plate only with the added II - SSV II. To keep the faith I try and do something here to at least feel like I am contributing to the build. Next week I go to Weldcraft - to get two wheels narrowed and center bored to fit the hubs I have on the front.
Bought two tires P215/R55x18 - V-149's - and 2 brand new Wheels for a '80 buick with the same bolt pattern (5 x 4-3/4") that will be narrowed to 6-1/2" from 8". The only GM car I could find with the same bolt pattern and - bore out the center to 70.3 mm.
Got to keep the faith. SAM
