painting street trim
sorry if this is in the wrong place, but im painting my street trim (again). last time i did it i used the wrong primer and the first time i took it to the car wash it messed it all up. so now i got the right stuff(duplicolor) and im just wondering if i should use a clearcoat or not? i mean i did a little test spot and its REAL close, will the clearcoat make it more durable or anything what do you guys think??
Clearcoat definately will make it more durable and it will make it match the car better (shine wise). Think about it, your ground effects (im assuming thats what you are talking about) take alot of abuse being so close to the ground. The clear coat not only makes the paint shinier, but it also protects it from UV rays (which tend to fade paint) and it protects it from rocks and road grime. Now, spray can clear can only protect it so much. Its still gonna get chipped up, but just bare color coat wont hold up nearly as well as it would with clear on it. Just give it plenty of time to cure before you put it back on (or drive it if you are just doing it on the car) or the paint will get really chipped up the first time you drive it.
