I would give it a light sanding and use Adhesion Promoter (plastic primer) first. Goody for you 4 getting rid of fake plastic wood. I hate it!

Yes definately sand it before you paint it. Adhesion promoter is a must or the paint will just peel back off. Be sure to let them dry for a few days before you put them back on. Its hard to get them back on without scratching up the fresh paint.

Yes; to do it right, you really should. I'm not saying you need to sand it down to bare plastic- but you really should at least scuff up the top coat with some medium-high grit sandpaper just so your paint sticks better. Plus, you need to clean it well, even after a light sanding to make sure you get any grease/oil off (just in case anyone every sprayed armor-all or something on it).

armor all cracks dashes..

Yes you should sand it, i had to use a rough sand paper then i used 400grit. Then i sprayed a cote let it dry, then hit it with 400grit and applyed another coat.

I put 3 cotes on.

This steering wheel cover is awsome, and yet i havent seen anything like it. I got it off some caddy @ my old work.

:
...looks at least one zillion times better then the fake wood and should be essential to all gen 5 owners (with fake wood, which I think they all had?). But no need to pick on gen 5 owners really - all cars wit da fake wood really. Really.
