Default Dash trim painting

I know that there are some people out ther ewho have painted their dash trim pieces. I am wondering how to do it right. I am looking at painting the trim piece that goes around the gauges and down around the radio and hvac controls in my 2003 LS. Any suggestions?

all i know about the stock paint is its a rubberized paint to prevenet wear. I'd say it's more about application than the type of paint you use. you want an even coat on something so in your face or you'll see every inperfection.
