My thoughts exactly. The doors on these cars weigh at least twice as much as most other cars out there. So kits for these cars that will actually hold the weight and not get screwed up after a few opens, causing the doors not to close right anymore, is going to cost around $1,000 and it just goes up from there.

Although, if you do go with it, you'll be glad you spent the money for the high dollar kits, if not there's a very good chance after 1 or 2 times that door will be coming down on you when you get in and out.

Door fell on me 1 time and since then I check the door gap for hydralic fluid or whatever is in the shocks. Made a hissing sound and fell slowly but when it goes, the inside of the door will have fluid on it so I know now.

I don't get why everyone thinks the weld on kits would be better. These doors are bolted on from the factory. The quality of the hinges seems to me to be the deciding factor along with wiring management. I have NEVER seen anywhere that these aren't "street legal". The only place that you may have a problem with these would be at a racing event. In the event of a roll-over, you may not be able to escape your vehicle.

With factory hinges they dont have to worry about the door moving up or down so the bolts really dont move, with lambo/verticle doors kit if the door falls its out of whack. With bolt ons they sometimes slip and require adjusting more than weld ons. I work in chemical plants and I can tell you that they bolt and weld things A LOT, but when they are looking at stability and duration welding always seems to be the best choice. The only time that they bolt things is if they know that they have to go change something in or around it, welding is used for permanent. If you remove the shocks and let the door fall all the way down I can guarentee that the bolt on will become un-aligned and will need adjusting. My weld on has been dropped plenty of times and nothing happens... When I went to get my car inspected by our sheriffs office (totalled/rebuilt title) I did mention that to him and the only thing he could come up with is that in the event of an emergency someone would not know how to open your door(s).

DRuben;
How did you solve your wiring management concerns? On my mother's Suburban, there are plates and pins that completely lose contact when the doors are open. Then, when the doors close, they make contact again. Would a set-up like that work with your door style?

Im sure it would work and I wish I was that good to make something like that lol. When I got the car the wires were electrical taped (I know ) together and always came apart. I removed it all and extended all the wires about 4 inches and heat wrapped them. My next project is to lengthen the wires so the connecting harness is inside the car and have the wires in a wire cover thingy. As of now the harness is hanging on the hinge.

Yes it still works. when the door is closed it makes contact and completes the circuit. When it is open the circuit is cut. No matter how the door opens when it is closed it is in the same position. So lambos, suicide, gullwing, it doesnt matter the door will sit in same place when closed and complete the circuit. You still have wires tho in the black hose going in your door those are only sensors for security systems, lights, ect. I have never seen a door that had no wires at all.
