Default Hidden rust bubbling under vinyl top

Hey all, new here. Just bought a very nice 77 Monte Carlo Landau, got it home and found a small bubbling area that under vinyl top, that even the Lemonsquad inspector missed. It seems to be small and contained, not the end of the world at this point but does anyone have any experience with this kinda thing? Should I just get it to a shop asap?

I plan on keeping this thing, I absolutely love the car and am not too concerned about the cost of getting it fixed.

Probably be best to bring it in and get inspected. Atleast you will have a better idea on how much it would cost.

Congratulations on your acquisition, last of the 2nd gen body style. I'm admittedly biased when I say it's my favorite generation.

I've had my '74 Monte Carlo since 1984. Bubbling under vinyl roofs means rust. Unfortunately, there's only one right (i.e., expensive) way to deal with rust. Believe me, I feel your pain. Several years ago, I pulled the vinyl off my roof to help slow the spread of rust. A few years after that, I had all the rust repaired and a textured paint put on in place of the vinyl roof. In retrospect, I should have done that shortly after I got the car back in the 80's but the textured paint I used wasn't available back then. It's kinda like a truck bed liner. Mind you, my car is still my daily driver so my focus is more on functionality than period correct appearance. I would love to put a padded vinyl roof on but there's lots of maintenance that goes with it which I don't have time for.

Enjoy your new (to you) ride and good luck with your vinyl roof.

Thank you! I’m gonna zip it into the local
classics body shop as soon as this rain stops.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not worried about it’s value as a classic I just love it so I’m not too worried about being period correct either. I’ll probably redo the the vinyl however since I have the money right now. Thanks again!
