Default Exterior pillar trim "Applique" removal?

Does anyone know how to remove the pillar trim on the exterior of the door? Its the black piece of plastic that is basically at the back side of the window:

The rubber trim on the applique side needs to be pulled out to expose the bolt at the base of the applique and the rivet on the top. Once you remove the bolt and rivet it comes out pretty easily. For the top I used a sheet metal screw instead of a rivet.

My car is getting painted right now (Same color Galaxy Silver but just fixing everything) and I was going to have the guy paint the pillars cause they look like crap. I thought they were part of the door, but he told me they are removable and easy to replace. You think silver would look cool, hmmmm? The pillars or "Appliques" as GM calls it, are not cheap they cost about $40 each. I kinda like the black since my windows are tinted. I am going to be painting my door sills and putting door sill plates on after I get it back. I will take pix.
