Welcome Member: 3.1 Monte, to the MCF
Yes, after market mod's are limited for the 3.1L
Since you have flowmasters 4 a super sound & they help the exhaust exit with great tunes , I would consider a CAI: Cold Air Induction System. Keep your 3.1L Tuned `Up ,& Serviced, and enjoy driving your Awesome Monte Carlo. Tell us more about your Monte, and post some pictures. How long do you plan on keeping it ? Is your 3.1L in great shape ? You can consider internal engine upgrades, but you can put a lot of money into engine mod's on a 3.1L, and you may want to consider just enjoying your 3.1L and saving for a later model with a 3.8L or a SC version for great power 4 the $. Let us know your plans.
Good Luck from `Space

L82
The L82 ("M-code") was an updated, SFI version of the MPFI LH0, produced from 1993 through 1999. It featured a structural oil pan, a stiffer redesigned engine block, and sequential fuel injection. Output for this version was up 20 hp to 160 hp (up 15 kW to 118 kW) at 5200 rpm and 185 ft·lbf (250 N·m) at 4000 rpm. Compression Ratio for the L82 was 9.5:1 and the bore measured 89 mm (3.5 in) while the stroke was 84 mm (3.3 in) giving it a displacement of 191 CID (3,136 cc).

They don't make a cai for the 3100. Goto milzys motorsports because they are the leader in upgrades for that pos engine. The whole purpose for that engine was mileage so for under 1k all you can get are useless visual mods for it. If I were you I'd pocket that money and when u can afford to do a 3800 upgrade

The one below is for a Beretta, but I believe if you are
creative, it would work.
With the price of `gas climbing again each week, you may
be glad that you have a 3.1L

Welcome to the web site. Stick around and please post some pictures of your Monte for us.

Don't worry about not everyone being in favor of the engine you have. Most the members on MonteCarloSS.com consider the 305 V8 a lot of the 1980s Monte a boat anchor. Even the High Output 305. But I'm satisfied with the 305 H O in my '86 LS Monte.

thanks for all the feedback. it is really my brothers monte but after he got the flowmasters he was kind of in a "what next?" attitude. so i joined this forum to give him some ideas. i had looked into the cold air but have not found one for his specific car. but if it is a 3.1 of the same year that should work right? even if it is for a diferent car?

and i will ask him about getting some pictures on here. his car is very nice visually. with wheels, ground effects, neons, and decals. with a killer stereo system as well.

thanks for all the help so far.

Tell him to install a magnaflow high flow catalytic converter and delete the resonator to make the flows sound better. And as far as a CAI the battery is in the way so all they sell are short ram intakes. U will have to be creative and make one yourself to make it a true CAI. But in complete honesty that engine is not worth it
