Check to see if your catalytic converter is stopped up. A lot times when the catalytic converter is stopped up, it will cause the check engine light to come on and make the transmission where it doesn't want to shift. Get under the vehicle, tap the catalytic converter with a hammer, and then drive it to see if there is a change. You can also check the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe. If there isn't much coming out, it is definitely your catalytic converter.

Or it could be your transmission starting to malfunction. Hopefully it isn't though. When was the last time you've had a fluid/filter service on your tranny? When you pull your tranny dipstick, is the fluid frothy or dirty?

My cat threw a p0420 code, tranny seemed fine. It had more power and sounded different after it was replaced.
