Six Year Annivesary: My Monte and I!
Today marks 6 years my Monte Carlo and I have been together. Unfortunatley, I have a stomach flu or something on our anniversary.
I had been looking for a Monte Carlo for months, usually looking at $8-10,000 cars that were 2000 or 2001 models or so, usually with 100,000 miles or more. I found this one on cars.com and the given price was $12,500, but I decided to take a chance and gave the man I call on a Friday evening around 6:30.
I got a voicemail, but he called back that night around 9:00 and seemed very surprised that someone had made a call. He said he had it listed for about 6 months and no one had called in forever. His new price was $9,500 and that was as low as he was going to go, allegedly. (Turned out, he was dead serious).
The next morning, my parents and I made the trek to Raleigh and looked the car over, drove it down teh highway, and gave it a thorough inspection. We talked about an hour and the guy wouldn't come down, but we decided the price was good and put down a deposit. We brought the car home a few days later since it was a Saturday that year and we had to wait until a DMV was open.
The previous owner was the third owner and had records of all services done to the car in an envelope, even a transmission flush. It had 80,000 mile sbecause he used it to go to Indiana and New York once a month (on separate weekends, usually). He needed a 4 door car since his wife and he were planning to start their family and the car was actually keeping them from doing so... since his other car was an El Camino.
Here is the photo of my Monte Carlo 6 years ago today, when I was 17 years old, she was 4 (birthday on August 1, 2002, it turned out later), and had 80,000 miles....
First two photos are the home of the private seller I got it from...
And the photo coming up the driveway the first time with my mom getting one of the first rides in the car...

Did you get her something special for her anniversary with you lol
Hopefully she's been treating you well lately. I know you had a "rough" patch.

Thanks guys and gals,
Speaking of the rough patch, I still don't know if me and this car will make it to 7 years or not. I had wheel bearings, a water pump, and a cowl vent seal go out. It all sounds minor to type it right there, but it seemed like every month was something new going wrong on my car for awhile. Right now the turn signal blinker messes up when it rains. I guess i just need to replace the flasher, but I haven't gotten "aroundtuit".
55,000 miles and it has been good for a lot of them... 1.5 years of high school, 4 years of college, most of my first year teaching already with it... it goes "vroom" when you stomp it....
