A Sign Things Are Getting Tough
X2 I have 3 cars like that now , One time at gas pump some guy asked how the vette was on gas I told him it likes gas !!! He looked puzzled .....
I'm keeping mine till it becomes valuable again. LOL
I know the dealer could care less about me or my car. He just wants his hands on it so he can flip it AND get me in to more monthly payments. You know they check my credit every so often to see who's a good risk and who isn't. (or maybe they could care less?)
But the dealer does get some type of kickback from the banks if the buyer is a good risk. They have to. First they both stand to make money off the buyer is he/she is a good risk.
I'm sure most of you know how car crazy I am. If I'm not............ then i'm wasting my time, right?
I waited 20 years to be able to buy a new car again. I loved the 2000 Montes the first time I spied one. I knew some day I'd own one. But I figured it would be 2010 before I could afford a 2000 MC. In 2006 when we rented the '06 Monte to travel to Monte Nats that year we both loved the car. I teased I was going to steal it and claim I had no idea where it was?
I've regretted NOT taking my dad's advice in the 1980s and not buying a new Monte Carlo back then. A friend bought a beautiful '86 SS new that he then traded on a new '88 SS and he still owns today. He offered the '86 to me before he traded it. When my dad once again told me to stop by the Chevy dealer and see what kind of deal they would give on an '06 Monte, I decided it was time to find out? Plus at the time UPS had an agreement with all the domestic automakers to give UPS employees $$$$ off new and certified used cars. I wanted to see what that would equal out to?
Only by the grace of God was I able to afford the '06 Monte in 2006.

x2! Back in '97 we bought a '94 Suburban. It had already depreciated by over 50%. We kept it 'til about 2 years ago, donating it to a local charity for the tax credit rather than selling since it wasn't worth much. It had about 220K on the odometer at that time. We would have kept it longer, but really didn't need a truck like that anymore.
And as a side note... Clearing the old Suburban out of the driveway allowed me buy my next (current) old vehicle: a 1990 Jaguar XJS. Cheap to buy, no payments to the bank, about the same mileage as the Suburban, much cheaper to insure (I can use a classic car insurance company), and with more character / more fun to drive than almost any new car (in my opinion - but I'm an old car buff). If any bunny huggers give me #$&% about my gas-guzzling V12, I point out that most days I ride a 14 year old motorcycle that gets 50mpg, spend way less monthly on overall vehicle costs than they do, and that almost all of my vehicle costs go directly back into the local economy (local maintenance shops and parts suppliers). Old cars (and motorcycles) rock!

They run credit checks every so often... if you wnat to see when, check your credit report. I had a damned mortage showing up on my credit report because I got one of these pre-approved mortgages. I went to do something one time and I was being asked questions about my house, how much my payment was for, what teh interest was, who the loan was through... yeah, turned out I got one of those pre-approved things!! I was wondering where my house was for a couple of weeks until I got that straightened out though!!!
