Get a miniature schnauzer. Just make SURE you get a miniature. Cause our's were suppose to be, but they sure weren't.

rysZ34, I understand what you're saying, but I grew up with animals, so did hubby, so it was only natural for us to have pets even when our son was a baby. Just have to take extra precautions, train the pet to behave properly around children and at the same time train the child to respect the pet.

RJ, there's a HUGE difference between a mini-schnauzer and a regular one, LOL. That could create a big problem for someone wanting the other.

We had a boxer when my son was little. She was an excellent dog. Would like to get another one some day. Right now we have a choc. lab pup (5 months old), wienie dog cross, bassett cross, and a black lab/border collie. The choc lab and bassett have a brain the other two are idiots, LOL.

Yeah, you're right. It is all about training both the pet and the child. I think when he is a little older we'll venture that way though. My older sister breeds labs, mainly chocs and yellows. Both of her yellows are AKC registered and bought from a reputable kennel. She just bought a choc pup not too long ago and he is a HELLIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. The yellows are very mild-mannered, which is nice...Her female, Cordelia, is pregnant right now...So hopefully my sister will save us a pup...She also trains.

[fish] sure do have different personalities.
Yeah they definitely do. I like rainbows alot, there are so many varieties and colors, I think they're one of the most vibrant freshwater fish. My mom likes the little schooling fish so we have a bunch of tetras, its fun to mix species with those because they'll still school together, and then you have more variety. I like bala's but I'm waiting for a bigger tank before I get one. I have 3 silverdollars which are getting fairly large in the 30 (they'll probably upgrade to a larger tank as well). And we usually have at least 2 otocinclus per tank because I have found they are the best algae eaters around, they don't get big and agressive like "chinese algae eaters" and they aren't lazy like plecos (even though I like plecos too... but I stick to the miniature).

Though I have a sad story about one of my favorite fish. I bought a Black Shark early on in my aquarium days before I knew how big they could get. He outgrew the 20 and moved into the 30. But then after awhile he was outgrowing the 30 as well (and becoming more aggressive)... I talked to my favorite pet shop who said they'd be glad to take him and put him in their large display tank. So on one thursday I told them I'd be back on saturday to borrow a big net from them. Friday in the middle of the night he jumped out of the tank and died... he must have known! I only name fish on occasion, but Mr. Kimosa will be missed haha. Funny thing is, after he died, the Red Tailed Black Shark (similar fish but stays smaller) took over Mr. K's cave acts very similar to how he used to (in the 20)

Oh, I know black sharks, LOL, I had one and they DO get aggressive. I know it was him that caused my arrowana to leap to his death, even had the tank lid weighted down. The black shark was almost 16" when he died, he was in a 55 gallon.
The fish store doesn't even carry them because they get so aggressive when they get big.
That catfish I mentioned earlier is about 13", kind of a bronze color with lots of spots. Didn't know he'd get that big, thought he'd stay small like a pictus cat.

Here ya go. It's not the greatest pic. Don't look at the algea, I only stick my hand in there as far as I have to to get the water changes done. I need to scrape it with a razor blade because the magnet just isn't enough. He'd eat an algea eater.

My younger sister has an African Clawed Frog---It is over 6 years old and she is in a 50 gal tank. We put a fish in the tank with her....a few days later we couldn't find the fish...
