hello all, i have a post to ponder, how do i tell if my defoggers are working on my rear window?? when i bought my 2006 LT i did not realize that it did have tint on the back! i guess it was removed prior to reselling it on a used car lot! so i wanted to get it tinted but the adhesive still remains, so it was not ok to tint the back window, therefore i am wondering, when the tint was removed could the defogger been damaged? possibly by using a razor blade or something very sharp? the question i was wondering was, how do i check to see that the rear defoggers are working correctly? let me know if anyone has any suggestions to this matter, thanks

Sure removing a window tint could damage the rear defogger.

On the older ones you could use a test light to find where the break was. All you need to do is start the engine so the defogger switch can be used as normal. Turn the switch on, use a test light, clip it to the electrical lead at the edge of the glass and start hunting for the break. Touch the light closest to the electrical lead first. See if there's power at that point and work your way out from there.

When the light goes out, you found the damaged spot.

 

Why cant you get your windows retinted??? I had the old purple coloured tint taken off the back window my 1995 Z34 and got new tint put back on... just thought it was wierd so i asked lol

 

i can still tint the rear window, but the adhesive needs removed first, but could someone let me know how to check to see if the rear defoggers are working or not??

 

well when wash the car at night the inside usally fogs up so try washing it at night see if it fogs and if it does hit the switch and see if you get the defrost lines

 

i did that and nothing, so is there a fix kit availiable for defoggers, what do you think??

Yeah Justins right, get the window to fog up...Doing stuff in the back seat does a good job of that...LOL Then turn on the rear window defrost. If you get the lines and it defogs, then it works...if no lines, and its staying fogged, you have a problem!

 

I remember years ago, a guy I knew in school had bought a little bottle of paste that was the same stuff as the defogger lines. He taped off the window and simply spread it on over the break in the lines.

But I have no idea where he got it from. It was many years ago. I assume an autoparts store would have it.
