Have to admit that Sony is playing it right with their Playstation 3 on this one. BluRay is built in so people can get the upgraded game system AND get better DVD's to boot.

People will rent or buy BluRay disks to play on their Playstations and squeeze out the HD-DVD market.

Microsoft had HD-DVD built into the Xbox360 as well, but I don't know many people going for it though.

Saw this on the news today:

The HD-DVD format is officially dead. Toshiba announced today that they are no longer making the HD-DVD player.

They also said that they expect Bluray to lower in price. Personally, I don't believe that.
What do you think?

I think it's a Marketing Decision ... based on Customer Satisfaction.
The one thing that NetFlix HATES is circulating DVD's that have freezes or Digital Breakup due to being scratched.
Imagine how that translated to the HD Customer who's ready and wired for HD and gets a Scratched-up DVD.

Getting burned by the NetFlix scratched DVD took me out of that Market.
After a few times of having the movie come to a screeching halt and freexing because of damage ... I started taking Tin Snips to the DVD's and sending them back in two pieces.

I figured I was doing them a favor.
NetFlix didn't seem to think so.

No more NetFlix for The RickCoMan ... I still owe them money I ain't even thinking about paying for "Missing DVD's"

To me, it's the same as:
Microwaves.
VCRs. (they used to be $800 or more)
Cell phones.
And any other gadget that came out high priced. Then the cheap knock-offs show up and flood the market and once again the Chinese make out like bandits.

I think the BluRay is better.... if not just in name alone.

They will go down in price as well. Give them 2 years and they will be less than $150.
