Back in the 60's ... Pinball was a big thing in all the Pool Halls. You could have a lot of fun for a nickel. Play all afternoon if you were a PinBall Wizard, like me.
If this Forum was a Pinball Machine ... there'd be that little reminder that you tried to get a little moore than your money's worth.

Is this Political Ranting going to go on for awhile?
Is it OK to Post about matters unrelated to the Car we drive?
I just want my car to run good.

This is the purpose of the Off Topic thread... sorry. This is what its all about.. things other than Monte's and a place for, when you don't have much to talk about concernig your Monte, we post some goofy mess in here. Yeap, these topics tend to go for little while. Sorry.
Don't be sorry. I love to gas about the things on people's minds just as much as the next guy!
I'm still undecided about who I want to be the next President. I'm waiting to hear one of them say: "My first act on being Sworn into Office will be to give an Executive Order to bring HOME the troops." Let a Civil War determine who will come to power in Iraq. This Country survived a long and bloody Civil War that ultimately led to the best Democracy known to this Planet.
Open the Draft Boards.
Build and re-certify some Nuke Power Plants.
Legalize Marijuana.
Implement some form of Gun Control ... When they wrote the Law a Drive-By was some idiot with a Musket on a Horse!
Raise the Speed Limit on Interstate Highway's to 90.

i like nuclear power plants, andlegalizing marijuana. 90 sounds a tad high... you know when it rains somebody will be out there running 90 and hit something just wrong....
I don't like the idea of a draft, unless it is an emergency. i was once taught that "there is nothing like the heart of a volunteer". if no one is in the military, there will be no one to go to Iraq, so there you go. Iraq isn't anemergency situation. the war should ahve been over 15 years ago when Saddam screwed around with Kuwait. We should have sent him to his virgins then, but we didn't. plus, i've scene the stats of cities like Washington DC that ban all hand guns... DC is one of the most dangerous cities in the US. the most dangerous cities ar ethe ones with the tightest gun control. someone (i cna't remember who) once told me "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns". of course, there is alwys the Dale Gribble from King of the Hill theory... "Hypothetical: Somoene breaks into your house, and you don't ahve a gun. How are you supposed to shoot him?"
LoL, gotta love politics

Hey Rick... I jsut remembered this....
when several wester nstates (Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, I believe were among them) raised their speed limit from 65 to 75, the highway department estimated like 1500 more people would die every year from an auto accident. however, the exact opposite happeneed. i belive it was 1500 LESS people died in auto accidents. they discovered that raising speed limits actually made drivers mroe alert and attentive while driving, making accidnets less likely. driving slower caused drivers to apparently get bored and do something stupid. but 90? that sounds a tad high to me. there are some cars out there that can't handle 90 in my opinion. our montes could though...
btw, that knowledge about speedlimits i read in a truckers magazine called Overdrive about 3 years ago.

I have to run the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) West from Boston to Albany, NY two to three times a month to bring my wife over to be with her mother.
Once past the the turn-off for I-84 Conn and New York City ... it's a two-laner with sections that look like the engineers just used a ruler and a pencil for straights that are sometimes 20 miles long.
EVEN THOUGH this road is Patrolled and some heavy lead-foots ticketed for "Speeding" ... there have been occasions whan I have has the Cruise Control set to 80 just to stay-up with the flow.
Gimme 80 if you can't gimme 90 ... A Posted 80 MPH Highway would have traffic pushing 90 anyway!

I like Rick's ideas, except for the nuke plants. Nuclear power is good in theory, but until we find a way to dispose of the waste we would be better off improving and developing solar and wind power.
As I said before, there should be a 2 year service to the country requirement for ALL U.S. citizens, it doesn't have to be military only. This would make ALL Americans more invested in their country, keep those that have "health reasons" from avoiding service, and hopefully make them appreciate how good they have it that much more. Say what you will, but it works for the Israeli's.
Legalize and TAX marijuana, there would never be a need to raise taxes again, there would be a LOT (hundreds of thousands) fewer people in the prisons, and people would be much mellower (and hungry, too.) trying to eradicate a WEED that has been on earth longer than man is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE.
Something needs to be done to keep loonies like those idiots in Washington who killed 6 people in their family on Christmas Eve, and the VA Tech killer, from getting guns. There should be tests for getting and keeping guns, just like there are for getting and keeping a driver's license. Guns are like pets, some people just shouldn't have any.
A better idea for speed limits would be 75 at night and in the rain, reasonable and prudent (like Montana or Wyoming had a few years ago) during daylight hours away from big cities. You couldgo as fast as you wantedback then if the weather was good and traffic was slow. Another good idea would be to have electronic speed limit signs, which I think some parts of the autobahn have, to slow traffic down for congestion, weather, and accidents. I really think 90 is too high for the majority of drivers, who think talking on their cell phone (or texting, WTF?) is more important than their actual driving.
Just my 2 cents, what say everybody else??????

if somebody on the VT campus had a concealed weapon, the massacre wouldn't have happened. if somebody in that mall in Omaha had a concealed weapon and was nearby, not as many would have been killed. then there was that guy doint church shootings in colorado. one woman with a pistol was guarding one church and when he came in, she shot him. i know you anti gun people like to say "in a rifle v. pistol match, the rifle will win." well, this woman had a hand gun and shot the guy with the rifle. he died later at the hospitol, but she still neutralized the threat.
i know somebody in that omaha mall, vt shooting, somebody who was there was screaming "WOW, I'M GLAD NO ONE ELSE AROUND HERE HAS A GUN THAT COULD SHOOT THIS GUY!!!" I just know they were...
Don't you know the people in colorado were glad that woman could shoot a pistol?
now.. i know Mad and Rick, if they are ever in a shopping mall and somebody starts shooting people, i know both will be shouting "I'M GLAD NO ONE ELSE HERE HAS A GUN TO NEUTRALIZE THIS THREAT TO MY LIFE!!!!"
