I saw that '83 Vette in the museum, in person back in 2005.

I watched one of the videos, given how the sink hole seemed to be a little delayed (not just one big crash), hopefully the damage to the cars is minimal.

But it's a good point, this happened after hours, no visitors or staff were around to be injured. Plus, if this happened while any of the staff were present, some of them may have tried to move cars before the sink hole got them (putting themselves at risk).

It's still pretty crazy!!

I visited the Museum back in 2002.

I like how some are headlining the story, i.e. "8 vintage Corvettes". Probably the wrong word choice. Rare or significant, yes. I'd say only one of those, the 1962, is "vintage".

Ha ha, that would be funny if that turns out to be true. One day a banged up Corvette comes across the Jackson Barrett auction block and goes for a record price. "it's a survivor from the Great Kentucky Sinkhole Catastrophy of 2014"

General Motors said it will help restore the cars and Chevrolet will oversee the restoration. The process will be managed by General Motors Design in Warren, MI. More details can be read here at National Corvette Museum's blog > National Corvette Museum: Chevrolet to Oversee Restoration of Historic Corvettes.

Now comes the fun part of recovering them from the hole. That will be interesting to see. Two of the eight cars aren't visible down there.

We'll post updates here.

A little bit about each of the 8 Corvettes that fell into the sinkhole > These are the Eight Corvettes that Fell into the Corvette Museum’s Sinkhole.

UPDATE: The Museum has announced that it will start removing the cars tomorrow, Monday 3/3/14. They have a live webcam available on their website to watch the work (link below). The first car out will be the blue 2009 ZR1 followed by the red 1993 40th Anniversary and black 1962.
