GTO closer to size of the Monte but point taken, at the time basically a Vette with a back seat. I know about Holdens.... First I recall seeing one was in the mid to late 90's I believe, was a Lumina body with a LT1 engine and RWD platform. Think it was named the Commodore also????

Take a 04-06 GTO and put the SAP grills in it and it STARTS to resemble a 1970... OK that's a stretch but the "tunnel" effect of the grills sort of almost, kind of tries to pull it off. Pontiac was on the right trail with the GTO concept, just needed some tweeking but... like you said they just made some minor changes to the Monaro and went with it, matter of fact if you look at the Maloo it sort of looks like a GTO camino. Perhaps had Pontiac been on better financial grounds GM would have made a more retro version but when sales were stagnant and their finances were drying up that spelled the end of the GTO and Pontiac . I have in the very recent past been thinking of getting a GTO (knew there was a down side to working for CarMax!) I have given a lot of thought about what I just said. Would like to see SAP grills and some decals paying homage to the Judges of 69 or 70...

 

I want a Maloo R8 badly, if they announced it, I'd be at a dealership ordering one that day in Black....I keep an eye out if it's ever announced, gotta have hope!
