nitrogen vs air

nitrogen vs air
what are the advantages of using nitrogen in your tires instead of just regular air? i know air is like 78% nitrogen already but seems more and more shops are wanting you to pay extra to have pure nitrogen put in your tires instead of regular compressed air. can anybody fill me in on this?
thanks

RE: nitrogen vs air
long story short, imo, its not worth it if youre not racing, and have significant tire pressure fluctuations with air. its just another service, that helps minimally, someone can sell.
whats it do... #1 no tire pressure change between hot and cold as with air #2 reduced corosion, but only place it matters is at the bead, and it seems to work its way in from the outside, imo #3 i've heard ppl say tires with a leak wont leak as fast, but that really doesnt make sense to me why it would be that way.
if it was free, i'd use it, but its not.... i'm sure others will have differing opinions
Anyone here using nitrogen?

RE: nitrogen vs air
Not using it, YET!. The temperature pressure fluctuation of air gets to me, and because of the temp' swings here in Michigan, I am leaning towards it. I've got several local tire shops that do it .
Anyone using it?

RE: nitrogen vs air
Yeah, it's great for areas that get cold winters and hot summers. No fluctuations. They also claim that the nitrogen won't leak from the bead over time either.
Personally, at $5 per tire for nitrogen, and compressed air being free (or almost free), I'd stick with the regular air.
