If you can do the work yourself, fixing all that stuff in an afternoon isn't expensive.

If you are paying mechanics to do everything for you, it's not worth it to keep an older car.

If you want a newer car, get a supercharged Monte, and blow his new 07SS out of the water

Ya I have no one that fixes cars around me. The fiancé isn't mechanically inclined, my dad is gone lots, I work at a dodge dealer but it still costs quite a bit to get work done. The parts for the lines is only like $42 or so but requires 2 hrs, 1.5 to install. What kin of fuel mileage shoul I be getting? Lately it's been 55-60$ to fill it up, with city driving I get 300km to a tank, with some highway I get 400. I don't know how big the tank is or what kind of mileage I'm getting out of it. The fiancé dragged me to a couple dealerships last night and drive through the lots. Monte is in the shop right now getting the rad done

On a personal note:

I wouldnt part with mine even if the worls ends in Dec, 2012 !!!

No matter what the cost...if your a die hard Monte owner as i am..Do whats in yur heart !!!

I personally would do the repairs rather than have a car payment for the next 5 or 6 yrs! to buy a New One...

As for camping dogs etc....I have a 2004 Silverado Z 71 4X4.
For camping hauling etc...

We just bought a 2010 28ft 5th wheel camper (in 2010)....That i use My silverado to Pull it around with ....

Bottom line? Depends what your most comfortable with doing....

If you do get rid of it..will you get another Monte? or something else?

of course you are on a site for "Monte Carlo" Fans...an owners.....
So i think your choice is already made !

To bad u live so far from me.. I have a certified mechanic as a neighbor.
That helps me out....and does excellent work..(Im disabled)
He does all my maintenance, not haveing to go to a shop or a dealer...
Really saves my budget !!!!

Go buy three service manuals on your car. Get the Haynes, the Chilton, and the factory service manual. You should be able to get them off of eBay fairly cheap. Each one offers different and good info. Use them to start making small repairs and as your skills increase so do the jobs that you tackle. Get yourself a basic set of tools at Sears or Lowes.

You can get the books from the library if you would just like to see if you can handle the work. These manuals really do simplify things. Changing a Tranny line is pretty basic and I think you could do it. Then It's like your paying yourself the money you saved on the labor.

Changing a radiator is really basic too.

Seems like a lot for those minor repairs. I would find a small reliable shop and make friends. With that many miles, you will be just giving it away. Trade in will be crap.

I get the discount shop rate $65/hr instead of the $120 we charge for everyone else
