Need opinons on windows 10 upgrade
10 definitely takes getting used to and as previously mentioned Cortina and Edge are terrible. Edge does not allow file extensions like Norton Toolbar so Identity Safe etc. are incompatible. Also it will not copy and paste images to the forum. It copies and pastes the image address, but not the image. Have to go around it by temporarily switching to Internet Explorer.
Getting to like it all around. I have the Windows Insider (beta group) on my recliner-side laptop. I have been able to remote to the desktop from the laptop just fine. Desktop remotes into the other computer ok, a Windows 7 machine running a Plex media server.
All this remoting is among "Professional" versions. There is some gotchas between the home premium versions when it comes to remote access.
The laptop came with Windows 8 and I signed up to get the pre-release versions of 10 because I hated Win8's behavior of opening windows or toolbars for no apparent reason. I was also able to test run several important applications on the laptop before deciding to switch the main machine to 10.
Power/sleep/awake has been great. Desktop install senses the UPS backup battery and shuts down when it goes on battery.
The not so good (until I learn how to make it good) is some drive mapping permission restrictions for automatic mirroring backups.
Have not figured out how to edit the return of the start menu. There's everything you installed A to Z in one long start menu. I like to organize apps according to use, have not found a way to do that.
The install thinks that marrying the computer to a Microsoft Account is the only choice. Don't have to. I accidentally put the desktop on a MS account and my user folder is baro - wish there was an easier way to change that.
Read up on using a separate drive for your data if you run the OS and apps on an SSD and keep all the music/pictures/videos/tax stuff on a separate data drive - that is not working very good for me. Never know where a download will go C: D: or some hidden folder.
Computer is a 2012 homebuilt Core I7 on an Asus board.
