First, Lisa, sorry to hear about you mom. But sounds like you are finding good ways to remember the best about her.
As for nicknames, my wife pretty much does that. My Monte has yet to have a nickname that "sticks". Her and the neighbor kids called it "Carlos" (seriously, guys would use chick names). During the summer, I switch between the Monte and a '94 Grand Am. I have called the Montes, simply "Monte", "The Big Boy Car" or the "Big Car" (based on size and performance difference from it and the Grand Am).
Now, my '84 Camaro on the other hand (been in "restore mode" since about 2003), my wife and her friends call it "The Baby". Despite my lack of time and attention to it (and side tracked by other projects), I refuse to let anything happen to it. It has the best parking place out of any car we have (in the garage). It was my second car, bought in '97-'98 when I was a senior in high school (oh the fun and stupid memories in that big hunk of sheet metal). I am a 3rd gen F-body fan and Ithink Camaros run in my family (it's all on my dad's side of the family, my dad had one, one of my uncles had one and my other uncle had 2).
You can check out stuff about my Camaro and other cars here:

As a side note, though my Monte is NOT an F-Body, it reminds me a LOT of things I LOVE about my '84 Camaro. It's a big car, roomy, has a color scheme used by some 3rd gen F-Bods, even though my Camaro is a Z28 (305 H.O.), I believe the horse power the Monte puts down feels a LOT like what my Camaro had. And a list of other "little" things.
