It's a pretty good life for most automatic transmissions, which never receive any maintenance like they should.

Sorry to hear that man but at least your ok with it. Seem's like every time i buy a car something croaks on it. That is just the joy of not being able to buy brand new vehicles. Get it fixed up and keep it maintained and it will last you forever.

I would suggest not getting a new one. Try a junk yard first.

Hi J.W.,
Sorry to read about your problem
You deleted your UTube Vid that you posted earlier of your Screaming GP & when I viewed it you were high revving through the gears ..I was concerned that you may have been hitting it 2 hard especially with the miles you had on your GP, but ~>(I would be doing the same thing)...

I'm still learning that it cost big dollars to drive aggressively 4-Sure... Treat your ride with love & they will love you back. Sometimes easier to type, then it is 2 `do 4-Sure!
Wish you good luck on finding a good deal on a new trans, or someone that can rebuild your present one..

Keep us updated...It's great to read that you love your new ride...I think it's a great looking ride...GOOD LUCK

Sorry to hear about that. But, like has already been said, 173k is a long life for an automatic, especially a FWD automatic. I got 250k out of the original transmission in my 93 Suburban. The techs at the Chevy dealership looked at me after looking at the odometer and asked if that was the original tranny. I told them it was (and they know me well enough to know that I know what I'm talkin about with cars) and they were impressed. I was too for that matter.

Get it built while you're at it. If/when that mod bug hits, you'll be glad you did. The tranny in my Monte is probably on its way out, and if I do end up keeping it, I'm gonna use this as an opportunity to beef it up while I'm at it since I do plan on modding it in the future (If I keep it).

Never mixed well??

I'm driving a '94 Pontiac Grand Am with a 3100 over 214,000 miles. Still the factory trans (has had two trans fluid and filter changes by me). Car runs great for it's age and mileage.

Sadly, the late W-Bodies are known for bad trans issues.

I agree with an earlier statement, sounds like you and GM's don't mix. That stinks man! I hope you can get a reputable shop to handle the work. Best of luck....

THIS!!! x1000

Unless you are getting a performance rebuilt transmission just grab a junk yard one. That's what I did about 40,000 miles ago. I was charged $700 with all the labor and had a 1 year warranty. The used transmission was also half the mileage of my old one haha
