Music that you like...
...that might surprise others.
As a kid, I remember feeling that interest in music was a "one genre only" type of thing because so many people I knew were either anti-rock or anti-country ... and didn't really have much of a "crossover" experience. But, in the last few years or so, more and more people tend to have an eclectic taste in music, myself included.
I can't stand to leave the radio station on one station all the time; too much music is out there (old and new) that I like and want to be hearing.... This is because my musical interests have grown ten fold (or so it seems) over the last few years, with "exposure" to all types of music, more than just country (which I grew up on) or rock or alternative. This is somewhat evident in the playlists for my radio shows the past 3 years, especially the radio shows I hosted this January 2008:

So, how about you? How eclectic is your music background and interest? Any music that you enjoy that would surprise others and/or that isn't exactly "popular"?

eclectic describes it for me. most of the time i listen to rock whether it's punk rock, metal, hair bands, classic rock, etc. but i also listen to lots of different techno music, lots of different rap and hip hop. and i have a few country cd's hangin around. oh can't leave out ska lol. only music i don't really like is opera/ classical stuff.

RE: Music that you like...
I mostly listen to rock from the late 80's to today. But I'll also listen to "classic" rock, some country, some rap. Everything else, I don't dislike, but don't actively listen to on a regular basis. Basically, if someone is listening to something else, I won't tell them to put headphones on, or "turn the sh*t off".

[Sorry I didn't reply sooner ... Mom and Dad had surgery Monday (Mom donated a kidney to Dad) and I'm just now trying to "catch up" again.]
*chuckles*
That about describes me, too, actually. Ironically, though, I play that classical stuff as a cellist.
Not sure if anyone notices the song quote in my signature each time I post, but if you do, you've noticed my eclectic tastes that way, too. I try to use a different quote each time.... And, no, I don't remember when or why I started quoting songs in my signature...guess it just developed as a way to be different and illustrate how diverse I am ... that I'm not just about heart issues or the Monte Carlo....

I play that classical stuff as a cellist.
Country is about all I listen to and the occassional instrumental(ie. Boots Randolph - sax, Floyd Cramer - piano). In school I played trombone in band, and I switched between trombone and bass guitar in jazz band. I really enjoyed jazz band, it wasn't so strict, you could have a little fun improvising. One of these days I'm going to learn to play the sax.
Cort, I wish your parents the best.

RE: Music that you like...
I play it all... Rock, Metal, Country, Jazz, Folk, Alternative... I have also created different styles, because I like all kinds of music, I have mixed them or fused them together to create a new style like... Country Jazz (mixing jazz with bluegrass), or Hard Country (mixing heavy Metal with Country)
Below is a RAW (as in rough) recording of what I call Hard Country (I just threw it together in 5-minutes) Both parts played on my Ovation....

This is me playing Tesla's Love Song - a little more refined... but still a RAW recording.
