Monterey California Car Week 2011
Well it's car hysterical week in my hometown. Some races, auctions and people that wear sweaters with the sleeves draped over their shoulders discussing the fine points of whatever they discuss.
From the press & blogs its all about the Concourse De Elegance in Pebble Beach and auctions. Don't fear, there are still lots for us to see, even if I have no interest whatso ever in the marque of the show this year (Jag) or enough $$ to even attend an auction.
There are a few events that interest me and the always welcome 'found on the street' surprises.
Day one -
Trailer Queen unloading. I wanted to see the DeSoto, but the Pontiac had to come out first. Lot's of time spent waiting while the crew tried backing it out. Problem in that it's a trailer queen - it kept stalling. I gave up and went around the block

OK, I'll wait to see a real running Bugatti off load

Ummm run? No, it turned over real slow. Even with a jump start, no chance to hear it's thrummm. It was pushed in.

On the streets around the Conference Center were some machines readying for the auction block.

Now the real fun - cars on the streets - Two 50s Chevy convertibles buzzed by the scene of the DeSoto

And there was this Mopar parked on the street

That's it for today - tomorrow I'll be in Carmel for the Concourse On The Avenue.

Day 2

Concourse On The Avenue - was overpopualted by Porchees & Ferarrees as expected. A few goodies were amoungst the
rest of the old iron and other antiques.
First, the old iron
Amazingly straight - A Grand Prix

Details in chrome

8 lugnuts just to remove a hubcap?

50s Merc with continental kit

Merc side mirrors as a side mirror

Merc side mirrors as a spotlight

Fins from Chrysler

Fins from Packard

HVAC controls on a Linclon. Operate those at 75MPH?

Dig the finned valve cover with the Lincoln symbol

Side note - I love the dash panels of late 50s cars, the more ***** and switches the better. And none of that international symbology - to operate an American car you need to know English.
Lincoln knew how to spell Lighter

Chrysler on the other hand was either creative, looking forward to the metric system or what with 'Liter'

Next - some Exotics
Get this out of the way - Porchees

Ferrarees

Though this Ferrari caught my eye more than the rest.

Ford GT

What? Close up here - A Ford GT with a Viper Club sticker?

McLaren's McLaren

Powered by . .

Who Remembers the car in National Lampoons European Vacation?

Refresh your memory

Lamborghini was another scarce brand here

Toyota 2000GT

This 40s Hudson had a crowd around it - I liked it's story of the places it's been - the stickers are not for show

Turn on gas dummy!
