it's really all up to you and what you want. The vette is a very nice sports car, I'm I'm sure you will have a blast with it. The Monte you have many things you can do with it. Restore it to original, or build it up to be just as fast and handel just as good as a vette, but still have the pleasure in knowing it is your first can and has been a car thats been in your family

I say either wait till you can put yourself in a shiny new (old) z06. or put the corvette money into that monte until the only corvettes you see are in the rear view mirror my two cents

what i would do if i had the money to do it is put a c5 vette drivetrain in that monte and have the best of both worlds. i was also looking at c5s before i bought the 06 but the c5 was silly expensive compared to the monte and i like monte carlos. the corvette is pretty intense though. either way good look choosing. and all this is assuming that your 79 isnt rotting away and needs all types of bodywork and floors. as long as the body is straight the frames not rotten and the floors are good swap in a respectable motor trans and rear in be done with it.

You've got a lot replies on which way to turn in this area. Both for and against either car.

In the end it's "YOU" that you have to please and no one else. Do what makes you happy.

Before you anything, give yourself a little time to think things over. Try to look at both cars from a couple different sides.
"What if I restore the Monte and keep it. How will I feel next year or 5 yrs from now about the car?"
"What if I do sell? How will I feel this time next year? Will I want it back?"
"What if I buy the Vette? Will I be happy with the higher costs of operating a Vette on the streets?"
"Will the Vette's fun factor make me forget about Montes all together?"

Just ask yourself a few questions like this and see how you feel about the things involved in doing them?

Will you have access to transportation while restoring the '79 Monte Carlo? It may be in your best interest to perhaps look out for a good deal on a 6th gen (00-05) Monte Carlo and find a good place to store the '79 while it is being restored. Plus, if you restore the '79, you can build it up the way you want it from color, interior options, even engine options. That '79 might even be a good candidate for Overhaulin', the TV show on Speed Channel.
