Plus as an instructor, I need to have the experience to draw from as I mold civilians into soldiers. That's why I need the experience, so I can be a better instructor and leader.
I completely understand what you are telling me. Combat has huge risks. Are you sure you want to potentially pay that price. Look at worst case scenario and hope for the best. That is all I am trying to say.

Mousehouse,

I understand what you're saying as well. But at the same time I signed that dotted line knowing what I was getting myself into. The way I see it, the Good Lord has a plan and if it's my time then it's my time, regardless of if I'm in the sandbox or here. I can't really explain the pull of duty that I feel but I just know that I need to do my part so that someone, somewhere who I will never know can sleep peacefully at night because those of us who are able are fighting their fight for them. I could have gone to just about any college in the country with a significant portion, if not all of it paid for right out of high school. But I chose this path and it's what I love. I should have gone Active Duty right off the bat but it is what it is and I'm going to work with what I have and make the most of it.

I do completely understand what you are saying and how you feel. I was in the army for a short time before I was discharged for an issue with my back. My only son is in the navy and I am thinking and talking like a dad. I wish you the best of luck in whatever life throws your way. Gregg
