It's a twin-turbo, 738-hp 458 Italia. Can we drive it yet?

^ There's some other awesome vid's at the end of above one (WoW) "2 dare 2 `Dream 4-Sure"

The back of this car has several badges: One says "Ferrari," another says "Hennessey," and the last says "Twin Turbo." Combining those three things into one car has got to be something seriously special, and seriously powerful.

<figure class="center" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 632.26px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; display: block; background-color: transparent; -webkit-margin-start: 0px;"><figcaption style="padding: 5px 0px 20px; color: rgb(153, 153, 153); text-transform: capitalize; line-height: 1.7rem; font-family: DiamantiCondEF-Book; font-size: 0.81em;">Hennessey Performance Engineering</figcaption></figure>Texas-based tuning outfit Hennessey Performance Engineering is well-known for pushing out some very bespoke muscle. Take the Lotus Exige-based Venom GT, for instance, which we drove way back in 2010 and still find cause to mention. Or, from earlier this summer, the Ford Raptor-based VelociRaptor SUV, which we also loved. If Hennessey builds it, chances are, it's going to be out of this world.

<figure class="center" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 632.26px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; display: block; background-color: transparent; -webkit-margin-start: 0px;"><figcaption style="padding: 5px 0px 20px; color: rgb(153, 153, 153); text-transform: capitalize; line-height: 1.7rem; font-family: DiamantiCondEF-Book; font-size: 0.81em;">Hennessey Performance Engineering</figcaption></figure>Its first attempt at tuning a Ferrari is set to be unveiled in Monterey this coming Friday, and it's sure to rankle the Prancing Horse purists. You see, Hennessey decided that it would bolt up the standard 458 v8 with two low-inertia, ball-bearing turbochargers, an air-to-water intercooler system, stainless-steel exhaust modifications, and many other goodies to boost up power. The finished product is a Ferrari 458 that produces 738-hp at 8400 rpm and will go from 0–60 in just 2.8 seconds.
Of course, the engine-management end of things isn't as simple as the bolting-up part, making the cost for all this speed $59,995. Tune your Ferrari, or buy a Cayman?—this is a rich man's dilemma. After listening to the Hennessey 458, we wish we had enough money to do both.

Maranello unveils its ultimate V8 sports car.

</header><figure style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 632.26px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; display: block; background-color: transparent; -webkit-margin-start: 0px;"></figure>

At Frankfurt, Luca di Montezemolo should just walk onstage, look at the gathered media, drop the mic, and walk off. This is the Ferrari 458 Speciale, Maranello’s successor to the 430 Scuderia, and it is insane.
At 2844 pounds dry, the Speciale stands 198 pounds lighter than the standard 458 Italia. Moving that lessened mass is a reworked version of the Italia’s 4.5-liter V8 that makes 597 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Peak power arrives at a screaming 9000 rpm, while max torque makes its presence felt at 6000 rpm.
In addition to being Ferrari’s most powerful V8 ever, the Speciale engine’s specific output of 133 hp per liter is the best ever delivered by a naturally aspirated road car.
Unsurprisingly, it hauls ***.
<figure class="center" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 632.26px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; display: block; background-color: transparent; -webkit-margin-start: 0px;"><figcaption style="padding: 5px 0px 20px; color: rgb(153, 153, 153); text-transform: capitalize; line-height: 1.7rem; font-family: DiamantiCondEF-Book; font-size: 0.81em;">Ferrari</figcaption></figure>Ferrari says that 0–62 mph takes three seconds flat; 0–124 takes 9.1 seconds. Ferrari did not reveal the amount of time required to make the jump to hyperspace, probably because the added weight of a Wookiee co-pilot carries an unwanted performance penalty.
Acceleration numbers are just a small part of the story, though. The Speciale, like its predecessors, the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia, is built to own the track. Which it does, at least at Fiorano. Featuring new (and meaner, better looking) bodywork with movable aero elements fore and aft, the Speciale is the most aerodynamically efficient, standard-production Ferrari ever built. (Take note, that doesn’t include special limited models like the LaFerrari.) Its lateral acceleration of 1.33 g’s is the best ever achieved by a Ferrari.
That, combined with bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber and a new Side Slip Angle Control system that works in conjunction with the car’s traction control and electronic differential, delivers a lap time of 1:23.5 for the 458 Speciale at Ferrari’s test track. For those keeping score, that beats the standard Italia by 1.5 seconds and trails the mighty F12berlinetta by just half a tick.
The car will debut next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but who cares? It’s irrelevant. Those who choose to own the new ultimate Ferrari will do so. They should be satisfied.

Why this is a six-figure collector's car and not a $20,000 classic.

</hgroup>By David Traver Adolphus August 14, 2013 / Photos by Mike Maez/Gooding & Co.

</header><figure style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; width: 632.26px; font-size: 16px; vertical-align: baseline; display: block; background-color: transparent; -webkit-margin-start: 0px;"></figure>

One of the tough things about getting into muscle cars, just like getting into heavy metal or show chickens, is understanding the little details that make the difference between a King Diamond concept album and Metallica's "St. Anger." All these specialist hobbies use what we call the "language of social exclusion," where not knowing the jargon means you can't participate.
I think that stinks, so I'd like to take this opportunity to present in plain English why Gooding's 1969 Camarohas a $160,000–$180,000 estimate, and not $20,000–$30,000.
More than anything, you have to understand the hierarchy of available engines. In 1969, Camaro engines started with a 155 hp, 230-cubic-inch six and peaked with a 425-hp 427. Each is known by the code used on the order form, like the three variants of the 396-cubic-inch big block (the 325-hp L35, 350-hp L34, and 375-hp L78). As the 427 was special-order-only through the Central Office Production Order (COPO), the L78 was the top regular production engine. Making 375 hp from 396 cubic inches (6.49 liters) is nothing special today—in fact, I'd be surprised if there was a production gasoline engine that size making less—but in 1969, it required extremes of engineering. Compression was 11.0:1 (requiring high-octane fuel to avoid pinging), and it fed down through a Holley four-barrel carburetor into a high-rise aluminum intake. It was a solid valve lifter engine, too, with unique aluminum heads, and you paid an extra $711 for it. That's about 25% over base price for the whole car.
In addition to the L78 motor, this Camaro has the Rally Sport (RS) and Super Sport (SS) packages. SS models were packed with visual cues—the big badge, hood louvers, "hockey stick" stripes, and more. More important, you got a floor shifter, power front discs, and you could only order the big engines with an SS package. The RS package was strictly about appearance—the blacked-out sills and grille with concealed headlamps, wheel moldings, and many accents and badges.
Plus, it's a '69. The new body style that year is now the classic Camaro shape, and General Motors delivered approximately 230,799 of them that year. Only 311 of them went out of showrooms with the L89, though (about one-tenth of one percent). Add all that up, and the difference between a $25,000 1969 Camaro and a $160,000 example makes a little more sense.

I have always loved Ferrarri's, sadly yes since watching Miami Vice as a kid lol, but they are sadly slightly out of my reach for this lifetime.

The Hennesy upgrade would kind be like strapping a helicopter jet engine to a cigarette boat (yes there is a gentleman that lives around me that acutally did this very thing, and the boat had a mishap last summer and blew apart, but he has since rebuilt it). I mean no one really and truly needs that much power, but if you have the means to achieve it, then why not

Thanks for the good luck if I play. I try to play fairly often, as I am like you and I enjoy day dreaming about what good things I would do for family and friends, and then as always the selfish side kicks in and I start to plan a trip to Arizona for the Barrett Jackson auction and then of course the renting of the yacht and crew to take me around all of the carribean islands, oh yes one of the many daydreams I go through every time I buy a ticket.

I also wish you the best of luck on your tickets, in the hopes that maybe one of us will actually win
