I knew a guy years ago that pi$$ed off a cop. He had a custom 1970's Chevy Nova. From that day on, every cop in town pulled him over for any little reason. And they know how to nitpick. They made the guy's life miserable. He ultimately sold the car.
I'd hate to see something like that happen to you. Although that was a more extreme case. I don't see your uncle throwing you under the bus. But still, I wouldn't give them an excuse to harass you. Go with the hide a plate.

Front plates suck. As long as you have a LEGAL way around it (suck as it being permitted in the front window or a show-n-go plate holder) go for it.
I am also the guy who got an $80 ticket years ago simply for NOT having a front plate on my car (but under the seat).
I don't know how "legal" it is, but I've seen 4th gen Camaro ('93-'02) owners trim/bend the plate and attach it to the front lower air dam!!
