I am not so much dealing with brand as I am price. Ultimately, I am calling the guy my builder is recommending. Not sure the brand door he uses, but I think it will work out. I am struggling with "do I want windows on the top panel for natural light on both doors for $250 extra per door or no windows".... I am not doing openers yet, but I will plan to use a side mount opener. Something to worry about AFTER getting electricity in the garage.

Tuesday, 5/8/2024 - FRAMING DAY! This crew arrived around 7am. Began unwrapping and unpacking the supplies. And they were starting framing by 8am. As I am working form home, I watched the security cam footage and took some screenshots. I later found I was watching SD footage and switched to HD!! You can see the sharper image quality in the last screenshot lol.

This is super exciting!

Just an observation thing.... I used to be able to see down that side street pretty well. I never gave thought to this garage blocking that view lol!

There is about 50ft between the back of my house and the nearest wall of the garage, but this change in yard size and view will take some getting used to. I am actually beginning to wonder what the neighbors are thinking. The home I had built is pretty large for the neighborhood, my new garage is bigger than some homes in the community. I am beginning to wonder if I took the "go big or go home" idea a bit far lol.

Tomorrow the roof trusses are supposed to arrive. They believe they can have most of the roof completed tomorrow.

Super jealous of that! Wish I'd have put something up at the start of the job. None of my security cameras can see that far back on my yard normally. Will make for nice memories for you to look back on, especially in HD quality.

Isn't the saying for garages and safes - figure out what size you want, then double it? Lol

You definitely won't regret it down the road, you may never get the opportunity to do something like this again so may as well get exactly what you want.

Today's progress. Trusses are up! Much of the sheathing is on. Tomorrow they hope to finish the roofing and start siding. I hung some electrical boxes for future lights and outlets (that will match the existing house, I bought the light fixtures for this a few years back and forgot to get the matching blocks. I ordered them Sunday, got them Tuesday with standard shipping from the links below:

Really making some fast progress! Those interior shots really give a good idea of what it'll look like.

I had one of these that I sold years ago. The owner called the office and thought maybe his trusses weren't done correctly and I had to go investigate. Turns out that a few of them had a slight space of air between the plates and the wood.
But the kicker was I couldn't find the place based on the address I was given and there was no Garage there.
So after I drove by about Twenty times the guy came walking down the driveway and asked if he could help. This was before GPS and I still had a bag phone.
I explained the situation and he said oh that is me?!?!
The garage was Huge looked more like a house with dormers and a high pitch roof like 10/12 so it had a room in the attic thing going on It was 40 ft wide and 100 ft long.
After we talked for a bit I found out that this guy had won the very first Lottery in our state.
Nice fellow was working as a Janitor when he got this. He wanted to stay working but was getting threats and he gave it up.
Never seen a garage that big for a residence before. So the upstairs would be perfect for the electric trains and the road race sets.
Looks fantastic I am envious for sure. If I had one of those I could keep some cars out there and the wife would never be able to find me. Lol

This garage is definitely a beast! definitely went nuts lol. The driver to have a second floor in part of this garage REALLY pushed things for some of the height. I already had a guy a couple houses down congratulate me on this and tell me he is jealous. I admit, it comes not just at a financial price, but I lost the open space in my back yard (which I really wasn't using) and I lost a view of the side street (which now that it is gone, I have found, I kinda miss it and will need to adjust a bit). But having all the toys in one spot, a really good area to work on projects and such, that will make it worth it. I wanted this big enough that I could comfortably open doors on any care I put in there.

The crew finished the roof yesterday and siding on the back wall. They are on hold until they get the windows next Monday.

Man, that's a monster! I just think of how many half finished projects I could fit in that thing. Lmao

Out of curiosity, what is the plan for the 2nd floor portion? Is it added storage or are you doing rooms up there?

I'm also curious what youre planning for HVAC as that's a pretty huge volume with walls that tall.
